I teach Painting inspired by the Landscape, for VCU. While my students are working, and in between critiques with them, I manage to find an hour or so a day when I can sit down and paint quick watercolor sketches of the landscapes where we are located. Therefore, these watercolor studies painted en pleine air, at local Virginia vineyards and parks. Painting this quickly with a watercolor media has presented new challenges for me, I love how painters like John Singer Sargent can keep it so loose yet so suggestive of details. I aspire to do that in these quick little paintings.
